When the topic was first listed... it was having a mild to moderate impact at worst. Now in 2008 I would say it has a tremendous impact... severe, no... wrong choice of words...

Severe - The cost of almost everything is impacted by fuel prices. Combining the impact of higher fuel prices with the credit/housing problems essentially insures a major/long recession.

For lack of a better word, a severe effect on the economy- at least in 2008. The high cost of oil is effecting every aspect of our lives- flying, driving, sporting events, groceries; you name a product to buy, and there's a good chance gas is driving its cost up. The high price of oil is even trickling down to even that bowl of cereal in the morning. I am so sick of these soaring prices.

I'd say severe.
Independent truckers are going bankrupt.

A family who delivered farm eggs and milk closed their business due to grocers underselling the independents and fuel costs increases. His family had owned the business for 48 yrs.

Wonder if China can do that job too?
Probably, since eggs are sold up to 6 mo old.

I've forgotten what a really fresh egg tastes like but I remember them being a lot better, colorful and don't spread all over the skillet.

There is at least a moderate influence on the economy as prices across the board are going up.

Maybe the question should be how much is the current condition of the economy impacting the price of fuel.

Moderate Impact now, but when people have to buy heating oil at 2.50 - 3.00+ a gallon this winter we will see a big increase in the crime rate to heat & feed their family.

Severe, because not only does it raise the price to consumers for gasoline, but it increases shipping costs of product delivered to the stores, which then raises those prices. It's the old "snowball" effect.

doubling what we spend on gas has had a significant impact on our spending. We eat out less, drive less, save less. Every thing else is increasing in price too. I blame this on gas prices.

Little. A news article yesterday pointed out that even at todays high prices, gasoline makes up less than 4 percent the of average family's spending.

With many companies/corporations spending lots of money as they scramble to find alternate fuel sources and the rising costs of fuel, I'd have to say Moderate Impact.
